Atlac ® 580 resin based products have high mechanical properties, excellent corrosion resistance, and heat resistance. Atlac ® 580 resin has excellent processing performance, and can obtain high-strength and durable components when combined with carbon fiber, aramid fiber, or glass fiber.

Atlac 580 Chemical/physical nature

Atlac® 580 is a high-grade bisphenol A vinyl ester urethane

resin, which combines exceptional chemical resistance and an

outstanding combination of heat resistance and flexibility.

Atlac® 580 is especially resistant to alkaline media and hot

water. Furthermore Atlac® 580 has very good handling and

curing properties.

Atlac 580 Major applications

Atlac® 580 can be used in all fabrication methods, and

especially adapted to meet the requirements of filament

winding, centrifugal casting, pultrusion, hand lay-up and spray

up applications. Extra additional of styrene leads to viscosities

which are needed for resin injection moulding techniques.

Atlac® 580 may also be formulated for mortars, floor toppings

and lining systems based on flake glass or mica. It can be used

as gelcoat base resin and laminating resin for use in marine

applications.

Atlac 580 Principal properties

Atlac® 580 has excellent wet-out and deaeration properties. It

produces less foam when standard MEKP are added with less

air inhibition, resulting in a tack free cured surface. Atlac® 580

has a low exotherm in curing allowing thick sections to be

fabricated. The density of Atlac® 580 resin castings is

approximately 10% lower than other resins, also has lower

shrinkage after curing.

Due to its urethane incorporation, Atlac® 580 can be

thixotropised easily by standard grades of fumed silica and

shows an improved compatibility with carbon, glass and aramid

fibre reinforcements.

Storage Guidelines
This resin is suitable for storage in a dark and dry place with a temperature between 5 ºC and 30 ºC. The storage period may be shortened at higher temperatures and may lead to changes in resin properties. The storage period of Vinyl ester resin resin containing styrene will be sharply shortened if exposed to light. Therefore, it is only suitable for storage in a dark place and 100% light proof container. Direct sunlight should be avoided.

Application

Atlac ® 580 is suitable for all manufacturing processes, and is particularly suitable for processes such as winding, centrifugal casting, pultrusion, hand layup, and spraying. Additional styrene can be added to achieve the required viscosity for resin injection molding technology. Atlac ® 580 can also be mixed with glass flakes or mica to produce mortar (putty), flooring, and equipment lining systems. It can be used as a gel coat based resin and a ship lamination resin.
